Wheel-thrown in speckled stoneware clay, this plate is hand-painted with porcelain slip and pigmented slip detailing, then glaze-fired to 1250 °C. It is subsequently overpainted with 24-carat gold lustre and refired at a lower temperature to permanently fuse the metallic detailing to the surface.

Designed to be displayed on the wall or used day to day in the kitchen, the piece draws inspiration from Ottoman and Iranian ceramics spanning the 12th to 17th centuries. Every element of the design has been painted freehand, with fine sgraffito details carefully etched into the surface using a pin blade.
