XLarge Serving Bowl
XLarge Serving Bowl
Wheel-thrown in speckled stoneware, hand-painted with porcelain slip and underglaze slip decoration, glaze-fired to 1250°C before being overpainted with 24-carat gold lustre and fired once more at 780°C.
A large bowl — fantastic for serving up big, generous dishes, as a fruit bowl, or simply sitting pretty on a sideboard.
My influences are broad — essentially a cumulative love of the history of ceramics: 12th–17th century Persian painted pottery, Iznik Ottoman ceramics, Imari ware, Delft ware, the forms and traditions of British studio and medieval pottery. A magpie's hoard. What connects them, I think, is a love of the handmade mark: the evidence that someone, somewhere, made something alive with their hands.
Every piece is unique and will carry small imperfections. The iron in the clay can leave the surface rough in parts, this bowl has crazing (fine crackle glaze) dotted around. The foot of this bowl has a charactful kink in it, however, it does sit happily flat. See close ups for details.
Care: Handwash only.
